Now we are off to the airport for our flight back to the U.S.
This blog will showcase the adventures in Brazil for the Dialogue of Civilizations focused on Alternative Energies. We will be learning the about different alternative energy technologies, visiting renewable energy sites and talking with industrial leaders of these technologies in Brazil. We will be immersed in the Brazil to learn their culture and language. I will use this blog to send updates on what we are doing throughout our trip and post pictures of the group during outings.

Day 28
Today we spoke with community leaders in a favela. We got to see the sustainable practices they started to implement in the community which included an urban garden. We also gave 5 families care packages of food.

We went on a favela tour of Tabajaras and Cabritos favelas. We saw how a different part of Brazil lives.

Today we spent the morning watching the Brazilian culture videos the students made on a aspect of Brazilian culture.
In the afternoon, we learned how to perform capoeira!

Day 22
Today we met with the State Secretariat for Energy for the state of São Paulo, Milton Flavio Lautenschlager. He discussed the renewable energy initiatives in São Paulo state and what technologies are most productive. We were able to ask questions and have a discussion about renewable energies in Brazil and São Paulo.

Day 19
Today we hiked the highest point in São Paulo, Jaragua. We hiked through the jungle and saw local wildlife! It was a beautiful day for the hike!

Day 18
Today we went to a large indoor fruit market called Mercadão. We had pastel de Bacalhau and mortendella sandwiches for lunch, then sampled many exotic Brazilian fruits.

Day 17
This morning we learned about sustainable cities, specifically Curitiba, a city in Brazil that boasts as one of the most sustainable cities in the world.
In the afternoon we took a samba dance class and visited the Latin America Museum.

Day 15
Today we presented ideas on how to implement alternative energy technologies in Boston. Then we headed to the AfroBrasileiro museum where we learned of the different ways African culture has influenced Brazilian culture.

Day 14
Today we went to Tonon bioethanol plant in Brotas, São Paulo, Brazil. We learned and saw how they harvest sugarcane and use it to produce Ethanol and refined sugar. We even got to taste the sugarcane!
